  1. I have an extremely low opinion of Bill McKibben since I attended a talk of his a few years ago. McKibben lacked imagination both then and now. When he says ‘The only something else on offer right now …’ he fails to suggest the possibility of challenging pronatalism or growth economics. McKibben simply cannot imagine any model other than the ecocidal trap that he has known all his life. I was obliged to take a copy of his most recent book that day in London. I had already drawn the conclusion that he was quite content to make a profit out of writing books that were never going to help people extricate themselves from the twin culture traps of pronatalism and growth economics. Therefore, I never bothered to read any of it.

His interpretation of this important piece of science will steer the way for his followers to continue the pretence that an energy transition is the solution to our problems. He is careful to keep both himself and his audience protected from any challenging questions about our culture. He is what I call a ‘business-as-usual’ climate activist, sadly most of them are in this category.
